Gym

A little over a year ago I joined a local gym in my town. At the time I was unsure if I would stick to it πŸ˜• . I therefore paid for the whole year in advance and signed up for 24 personal training sessions. I figured that if I invested a lot of money into my well being I would make sure that I would not let the money go to waste:idea:. By having the personal trainer I also force myself into a schedule and routine that would ensure my continued gym-going activities. My ploy worked. In fact, I have been re-upping my training sessions since then. So far I have lost about 20lbs, and gained a bunch of muscle. πŸ˜€ This is a huge accomplishment since I had never been a very active person. It had really been high school back in 1994 when I did my last sporting activity (skiing).

What is the real morale booster has been the past month. Just about everyone I know has started to say how thin I look. I never really believed that I would become a gym fiend, but I do find myself going to the gym about 5 times a week (2 days of training sessions, 3 days of cardio). The encouragement I get from friends and family really helped me get onto the the right track and I thank you all πŸ˜†

It does take time, for several months I did not see a difference in my clothing, but now that my clothes are a lot looser, boy the payoffs are great. My self esteem is skyrocketing and I feel great. (did I mention I feel great )

Fourth of July Weekend

I had a great Fourth of July weekend! πŸ˜€ First off, for the longest time I thought that last Friday was going to be a half day of work. Then, on Wednesday, I learned that we actually had the whole day off! Nothing like getting more time off than expected. This gave me some more time to do errands Friday morning before setting sail in the afternoon with my buddy Alvar and my dad. Alvar arrived from Boston on an Amtrak train (on time!!!) around 4ish and we set sail shortly after that. We had decided to do a short leg of our trip that evening, and ended up staying at Glenn Cove. As we were approaching the cove we could see that it was being affected by a massive storm. Better sense prevailed, and we waited in the Sound for the storm to pass before anchoring for the night.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a spider canÒ€¦

Last night I went to see the new Spider Man movie, and wow was it cool !! Most franchise movies slump their second time around, but this movie got it right. I laughed, I cried… There were a few good twists that you could not believe they would do, and it leaves the door wide open for number 3. Can’t wait for that one! This time around Peter Parker is at odds with his alter-ego of Spider Man and his everyday life. On one side he loves the whole crimefighting in tights bit, but it really does affect his day-to-day doings. We get to see how Peter Parker makes his decisions, and how, in the end, he comes to the realization that he, and NYC, needs SpiderMan.

Anyway, I’m off for a sail this weekend. Going to anchor at the Statue of Liberty for the Fourth. I’m praying to the weather gods for favorable conditions…

yawn

Today is going by a bit slow. I find that this country needs an official siesta time after lunch. Especially after eating some good pseudo mexican food. 😯

Cirque du Soleil

This is kinda cool. A couple of weekends ago my sister and I went to see Allegria in NYC. That was the first time I had ever seen any Cirque show, and we were lucky enough to get front-row center seats!

Now, by chance I was perusing the Cirque du Soleil site the other day, and wouldn’t you know that they have a touring show in Sydney the same time I will be there. I quickly snatched up a ticket to see Quidam. Wouldn’t you know, I also got lucky for this show and will have a front row seat! πŸ˜€

My sister is moving out today

Today my sister, B, who graduated from college about a month ago is moving to California. While she is quite excited about the move, the rest of the family is a bit nervous. She is moving out there to be with a girlfriend from college. Her friend has found a house where they will live, which is cool. However B will still need to find a job which is a bit nerve-wracking. I”m sure she’ll be OK in the long run, but it is a bit scary to think that she is hitting the real world. πŸ™‚

Anywho, until this morning I was OK with B’s move, but all of the sudden I know I”m going to miss her. It’s strange because when I went to boarding school, then college, then she went to college, we missed out on about 10 years. Now, that in the past year or so we have been hanging out more and more it is going to be hard to say good bye.
